What is difference between SPLOT and WEBPlotter?
Generally both software are HP-GL, HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL viewers and converters.
Both are based on the same HPGL, HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL engine.
However the
SPLOT software is a standalone application,
whereas
WEBPlotter software is a server application.
A server application is not a standalone executable, it can run only under some client application (for example a web browser)
and it has form of a
dynamic-link library.
The client application is responsible for the data management (file opening, data delivery etc.), it defines
size and position of the server application's window etc. By other words the client application defines
a framework of the subordinate server application and controls it. Because of this, the functionality of the
server application is limited by the client application.
The purpose of the server application is to provide some functionality to the client application, which the client
application has not. In case of the WEBPlotter, the main purpose is to provide possiblity to view plot files
embedded into html code. Although WEBPlotter enables to view plot files under web browser also in so called
full window mode
(file is not embedded into html code), for a standalone plot file viewing, conversion and manipulation is always better to use SPLOT.
By other words, if you don't need to embed plot files into html code, then using SPLOT is much more comfortable
and efficient way than using WEBPlotter.
The SPLOT program has these main features, which WEBPlotter has not:
Emebedded file explorer for comfortable plot file access
Batch support
Send and e-mail functions
Support for ZIP archives and SPLOT archives
Ruler
Measurement
Full PDF support - direct PDF export and integrated PDF viewer with markup tool
How long is the evaluation period?
As usual, the evaluation period is 30 days. However I understand that sometimes it is hard
to evaluate the software within 30 days (the user has also another work than evaluate one piece of the software).
So the real period, for which is the evaluation copy functional, is 60 days.
Can be the evaluation period prolonged?
Yes, it can be prolonged by installing a newer version. However this applies only to expired or nearly
expired period and the added time varies from 10 to max. 30 days.
Is the evaluation version fully functional?
Yes, the evaluation version is fully functional.
The only limitations are:
Evaluation period.
Evaluation watermark in the possible output (print and conversion).
For the
SPLOT software the additional evaluation limitations are:
Some batch operations have count limit (maximum is 5 processed files in one batch run).
The evaluation version of SPLOT cannot create shareable SPLOT archives,
it can create only trial SPLOT archives.
What is difference between Print, Export and Send functions?
The
Print function serves for printing to any
printer properly installed in Windows.
The
printer can be a physical output device (e.g. real printer, plotter, fax machine etc.)
or a virtual device (e.g. PDF driver). In Windows system the
printer is represented by
a printer driver (a
dynamic-link library
installed in Windows). The printer driver is usually provided by the printer manufacturer (in
case of a physical device).
The
Export function converts the input plot file (in HPGL, HPGL/2 or HP-RTL format) to a selected output format (for example PDF).
Unlike the Print function the conversion is done directly by SPLOT or WEBPlotter (i.e. not by an external driver as the Print
function does). The output is always saved to a disk file.
The
Send to function sends (copies) the selected plot file in unmodified form (as it is) to a selected
device (e.g. printer or plotter) or port (e.g. LPT, COM). Unlike the Print or Export function there is
no conversion or modification, so the output device must be able to process the format of the received file
(usually HPGL, HPGL/2 or HP-RTL). The Send function is not available in
SPLOT LITE and WEBPlotter.
Notice:
Some users are using the 'plot' word when writing to me. For example "When I plotted the file...".
However in such case I don't know what you really do. To help you, I always need to know what exact function
(and with what parameters) you used.
How to print in 1:1 scale?
In the Print dialog check the Scaling button and set the scale factor to 100%.
Similary the 50% scale factor means 1:2 scaling, the 200% scale factor menas 2:1 scaling etc.
Please note that if you print with scaling turned on, then the target paper size must be large enough
to hold the scaled image.
